New Old Town Development on The Fast Track

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif.- Taylor Fresh Foods will start construction on its downtown Salinas headquarters building as soon as August, according to city officials.

Last year, the agriculture company purchased the former Salinas Redevelopment Agency property in the 100 Block of Main Street. Taylor Fresh Foods will build its 97,000 square foot headquarters office/retail building across from the Maya Cinemas. Approximately 200 Taylor employees will be located in the building, and the project will also feature ground floor retail commercial spaces, 147 parking spaces, and a public plaza. Building plans have been submitted to the City of Salinas. The general contractor will start preliminary utility work on July 16.

The municipal parking lot that currently operates on the site will see its last day of operation on July 28. PG&E crews will then start relocating utilities off of the site in preparation for excavation and construction, anticipated to start by the first of August.

Current users of Lot 13 will be urged to park in the nearby Monterey Street Parking Garage, which has ample space for 435 cars.

Outgoing Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue stated in a city news release, "The Taylor Fresh Foods headquarters building is the crown jewel of our redevelopment efforts in the downtown, and well worth the long wait. Taylor's investment in our community is a win for the company, its employees, and the downtown community."
