Deadly Stabbing in Greenfield, Suspect in Custody

GREENFIELD, Calif - A Greenfield man is in custody after a deadly stabbing at El Camino and Oak Tuesday night.

Police told Central Coast News two men got into a fight at an apartment around 6:45pm on the 800 block of Oak Street when the suspect, Joaquin Garcia Soto, 32,  pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim, Israel Santos Ramirez, 20,  several times in the upper body, killing him. 

Through witness information, officers were directed to a residence located in the 200 block of Borzini Circle where they located Soto who had also sustained minor stab wounds to his torso.  The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries.  He was later positively identified as being the suspect in the fatal stabbing and placed under arrest for murder.

According to officers, a preliminary investigation indicates Soto  forced his way  into Ramirez's apartment where a struggle ensued.  The altercation later moved into the hallway of the complex where the victim collapsed from his injuries. 

The incident does not appear to be gang related and neither party is known to associate with street gangs.
