SALINAS - In your central coast economy, sales tax is up and could be staying up in Salinas.
Salinas City Council is looking at bringing what is known as "Measure V" back to this November's ballot.
The proposal would renew the sales tax for another nine years and increase it by a half cent.
The increase is expected to bring in about $22 million.
But some people in Salinas said if this passes it puts a greater burden on people already struggling.
"We've lost services and these very few employees have gotten rich," said Brett Landon. "It's Robin Hood in reverse and money being taken by the poor and given to these bureaucrats, so they can be highly compensated."
Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue said the city recently polled people living in Salinas and it showed the majority supported the measure.
