Santa Cruz Deputies Looking for Attempted Sexual Assault Suspect

APTOS, Calif - Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Deputies are searching for a suspect who exposed himself and tried to grab a teenage girl jogging Thursday night.

According to deputies, the 17-year-old victim was jogging on Sumner Avenue passing Via Soderini near Seascape Park in Aptos around 5:30 p.m. when she noticed the suspect standing behind the trunk area of a black sedan, possibly a Pontiac. When she jogged by the suspect he exposed himself and tried to grab her. She was able to get away and  ran to the Seascape Park to call 911.

She described the suspect as a white male, in his 30's, light complexion, 6'00" to 6'02", heavy set, approximately 250 lbs, short brown hair, with a brown groomed beard, wearing black sunglasses, black shirt and dark colored blue jeans.

Deputies are canvassing the area will continue to do extra patrols. Please contact the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office Investigations at 454-2311 or dispatch 471-1121 if you have any information or similar events to report.

The Sheriff's Office encourages people who walk or run alone to be aware of your surroundings, partner up for safety and call 911 if you encounter any suspicious individuals.
