MOSS LANDING, Calif.-- More Whales in Monterey Bay. For the last couple of days there's been numerous reports of more whale sightings off in Monterey Bay.
Experts told Central Coast News it's the most we've seen in years. Biologists aboard many of the whale tour boats in the Monterey Bay say it's rare to see more than 100 whale sightings in one day, but lately that's happening! That's not all, there have also been sightings of basking sharks, giant ocean sun fish, fin whales and other dolphins and squid that are rarely found in this area.
Kate Cummings is a naturalist for Blue Ocean Whale Watch. She says due to higher temperatures and wind, more food is being brought into the area which means more animals. "When there's a real good feeding area I mean whales are going to be coming from every direction and congregating in that one spot and right now there's so many that are coming to the Monterey Bay specifically," said Cummings.
This year is expected to be one of the busiest years for whale watching tours. Some whale tour companies have to book extra tours in order to accommodate the rush of people.
