Esalen's 4th of July 50th Anniversary Party
It has been a half-century of hippies, spiritual gurus, and hot springs at Esalen in Big Sur and they want to celebrate. On the day of commemorating our nation's independence, Esalen is putting on an all day event featuring three bands (Samba'Da, Pimps of Joytime, and Dehli2Dublin) in a venue just steps from an ocean cliff. There is food, beer, and wine for purchase and vendors are selling their clothing, jewelry, and other wares fit for flower-children of all generations. A Stretch and Yoga Movement class will be available from Hannah, and a hula-hooper, Jocelyn Gordon, will lead a Hoop Jam. Ticket price includes full use of the property, including the coveted hot spring baths.

This Seaside tradition features the San Benito High School Band, Monterey Bay Pipe Band and Jacob the 45 foot Whale. Other parade participants include local youth groups, clowns, military drill units, Color Guard units, classic cars and the floating Tropical Fish.

Soledad's 16th Annual Independence Day Celebration
From noon to 9pm, in the Soledad Little League Park, the Soledad Fourth of July Committee is putting on its 4th of July celebration starting with the Star Spangled Children's Parade at the Main Street School, wending up North Street, ending at Soledad Little League Park, followed by the presentation of colors and National Anthem. Bounce houses, face-painting, live music by old school R&B, rock and Latin rhythm band Nu Horizon, a talent show, strolling clowns, kids and adult games, three-legged races, pie eating contests and international food booths. There will be DJ music, Cub Scout pine wood derby and Show 'n' Shine car club. The fireworks-one of only two cities in the county that are doing it-begin at dusk (between 8:30-9pm). [WR]
