MARINA, Calif.-- New information on Monterey Peninsula water worries. On Friday the Marina Coast Water District sent out a 24 page claim it filed and news release about their concerns about the Regional Desalination Project to the county.
They seemed to say two very different things. The release says it's trying to protect you, the customer but in the claim, it's almost never mentioned. It's all over delays, conflicts of interest and controversy for a Regional Desalination Plant.
The Marina Coast Water District says it spent $7-$10 million dollars on the plant and it could end up going to waste if the DESAL plant isn't built in Marina. So it filed a claim, the first step in a possible lawsuit against the Monterey County Water Resources Agency and the County.
It lists 13 offenses against the county, including deliberately misrepresenting their intent and or ability to carry out the plant. The county says it's not responsible for the DESAL project's failure and points the finger at a conflict of interest involving former county Water Resources Agency Director Stephen Collins.
In one of the complaints by the Marina Coast Water District, it claims the county should've known about the conflict.
