Police Warn About Dangers of Toy Guns

Posted: Updated:

Seaside, Calif. - Police are warning residents about replica firearms, after finding a group of juveniles in possession of a toy assault rifle and a toy handgun.

Seaside Police say they responded to a report of four juveniles on school grounds carrying what appeared to be weapons. Responding officers found the weapons to be toys, with the orange safety tip removed from the barrels.

Police say possessing toy firearms poses several risks. They say, when the orange tip is removed or defaced in any way, it puts officers and the person in possession in danger. Police add that in low light conditions, the orange tip may be difficult to see, making it hard to differentiate between a real gun and a toy gun.

Seaside Police suggest that parents supervise children when playing with replica firearms, and educate them about the dangers of having a realistic gun outdoors.
