SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Police received the tip on Tuesday from the regional Internet Crimes Against Children Organization. Santa Cruz Police Cyber Crime Unit found Chris Pappas' home in a quiet neighborhood right down the street from Santa Cruz High near Walnut and Mission.
The arrest was due in large to the Internet Crimes Against Children, a regional task force of the National Center for Exploited and Missing Children.
"We've partnered with them in the last few years for some high profile child pornography cases, and anytime they need our services that we can provide as any cyber security."
Pappas, who said on his Facebook page that he was a tank commander with the Oregon Army National Guard, was arrested for possessing and distributing child pornography all over the Internet. Police still do not know how much he's distributed or how long he's been doing it.
Organizations, like ICAC, have specialists that monitor various chat rooms all across the web
Santa Cruz Police said it doesn't have the resources to devote someone to chat rooms all the time so having the national eyes and ears on the Internet 24/7 helps.
"These cases occur more often than we'd like they are rare scheme of things."
