MONTEREY, Calif. -- City manager, Fred Meurer, said it's the first step to actually doing something with land that's just sitting at Ryan Ranch off Hwy 68 in Monterey.
"This is a special meeting of the city council just to get a direction from them as to how they would like to handle the property that the city of monterey owns on Fort Ord."
Meurer said the land was zoned years ago for office space similar to what is already at Ryan Ranch. He said if those plans were approved it would bring new jobs.
like usual with jobs will come the revenue from whatever businesses come into the area. But one exception, the city wouldn't get all that money.
The land sits along S Boundary Rd. across from Ryan Ranch in the northeast corner of Monterey.
At one point development plans were set to go, but Meurer said it was a different city council, different time and place and it never got done.
Now, with a struggling economy and unemployment still high, muerer said its time to pull out those plans and make Monterey part of Fort Ord's future.
"Most people probably don't realize that we own 120 acres of Fort Ord"
