Local Company CEO Killed in Boating Accident

WATSONVILLE, Calif.- The president and CEO of well-known Watsonville construction company Graniterock died in a boating accident over the weekend in Lake Tahoe. 

Authorities said Bruce Woolpert, 61, fell and was found in the water the next day.

The coast guard is investigating the accident.

Woolpert was the third generation to lead the family-owned company, based out of Watsonville. He was born in Watsonville. He oversaw the company for many years, which is a material supplier and heavy engineering contractor with more than 600 Team Members in locations from South San Francisco to Salinas.

Woolpert was selected by Fortune Small Business magazine as a "Best Boss." 

Prior to joining Granite Rock Company, Woolpert worked at Hewlett-Packard for nine years.

Woolpert leaves behind his wife, Rose Ann, and two children, Marianne and Arthur.
