Man Rescued After Getting Stranded on Cliff Above River

Greenfield, Calif. - Monterey County Sheriffs rescued a man late Sunday night from a cliff near the Arroyo Seco River, after he got stranded 150 feet above water.

Deputies say Luis Lopez of Seaside and a friend were tubing down Arroyo Seco River, when they came to an area that was too shallow to tube any further.

Deputies say the men attempted to climb up the sides of the gorge, but Lopez found himself on a ledge, 150 feet above water and about 250 feet from the top of the gorge. Lopez's friend was was able to climb out of the gorge and summoned help.

MSCO SAR, Monterey County USAR and CALFIRE all responded to the scene and were able to rescue Lopez. He was treated at the scene for minor scrapes and pain in his arm.
