Gas Prices Dropping is Good News for Businesses

SALINAS, Calif.-- Gas Prices Dropping is Good News for Businesses. You may be surprised a lot of gas stations are happy about the drop in gas prices.

Some gas stations we stopped by say when prices are up it actually hurts their business more. Sara Garcia manages the shop at Blanco Shell on Main Street in Salinas. Her profits depend on people buying food, snacks and other goodies inside the store, not on gas prices. "My store sales went up because customers who can normally spend $40 in gas, now they spend $35 and have those $5 to buy some snacks inside the store to increase my sales," said Garcia.

So money's been tight with high gas prices and with those dropping her sales are on the rise."It will be good for everybody not just for us. Gas helps everybody, companies everybody," said Garcia.

Michelle Gerrard-Harrel owns a building products company. She says within her company they have a lot of gas issues. She delivers housing material across the county in her truck. When prices jumped, her profits also dropped. "I have to look at where my prices are going to be. So I usually have to pay the overhead because I don't want my customers to have to prices fluctuate," said Gerrard-Harrel.

The California Division of Measurement say Californians spend $200 million on gas every day. Many are okay with that number as long as it continues to go down. "Compared to where they were maybe a month ago, oh yea it's a big bang for the buck I mean look where we were a month ago," said Gerrard-Harrel.
