SALINAS - To your central coast economy, another national store is closing up shop. This time it's the women's clothing store, Fashion Bug.

Last Friday, the announcement: Fashion Bug was purchased as part of an acquisition by retail company Ascena.

In that same announcement, word that Fashion Bug stores will close by early 2013.

The news has already hit our Facebook page with several chiming in on the section that was originally dominated by conversation of Vice President Biden's visit to the central coast.

Over the past 24 months, we've seen a number of the big chain stores shut down.

Circuit City closed nationwide.

An adult care center, called Wisdom Center, is now at the Salinas location.

Borders, nationwide, closed last year.

The Sand City location has been converted into three stores including Tilly's and Ulta.

Best Buy shut down 50 stores this spring' the central coast was spared on that one.

Central Coast News contacted the Salinas management company to ask how long it normally takes to re-rent space after a major store, like Fashion Bug, leaves.

He said it can be a challenge to get a new tenant in a retail space this size.

As for when he will have to do that, so far Fashion Bug isn't saying the exact date it will close.

At least 40 Fashion Bug stores in the state will close.
