State Legislature Passes Budget, Waiting For Governor Brown's Ap - Central Coast News KION/KCBA

SACRAMENTO, Calif- After barely 2 hours of debate both houses of the state legislature passed a $92billion budget Friday afternoon. However, it heads to Governor Jerry Brown without a deal on welfare cuts; and along the way there was a lot of finger pointing and grand standing.

Senate Republicans, and some political pundits, argue the budget isn't balanced, honest or free of gimmicks. In fact, Bakersfield's Jean Fuller sent out letters to John Chiang and Bill Lockyer Friday morning calling for some backup. "I sent a letter to the state controller and state treasurer asking them to review this budget and tell me if they will be able to pay those checks this budget will require them to write," said Sen. Jean Fuller.

Midnight Friday was the deadline for passing a balanced budget or lawmakers faced losing a day's pay and living expenses for every day it was late. Governor Brown's office says he will have not any public comments about the budget today.
