MORGAN HILL - It's cherry season and it's shaping up to be a good one. After some devastating past seasons, the cherries are growing big and there's a lot of them.
Cherry grower Andi Mariani in Morgan Hill said this year looks like a vintage year for cherries.
After ten years on the job, he knows when it's looking good.
"Our two previous seasons were devastating," he said. "We had a lot of late rains that cracked our cherries. We were really hoping that we'd have a good year this year and it turned out to be great."
Mariani said it's not just a win for the grower.
It's also a win in your wallet.
"I think the prices are going to be reasonable to the consumer because there's a lot of good cherries on the market," he said.
The recipe for a good season: cool temperatures and no winds.
The heat and rain can really mess things up -- two things many growers aren't seeing.
Mariani hopes the forecast next year is the same.
"That allows the cherries to stay on the tree longer and get better size, so we have big fruit and a lot of it so that's what makes us happy," he said.
