New Electric Car Charge Station is Open

WATSONVILLE, Calif. -- New Electric Car Charge Station is Open. People in Watsonville have a new way to fuel their cars. The city introduced a new charging station for electric cars.

The Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments received the grant from the Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District. They got a $30,000 grant to pay for four Blink electric car stations. The others are in Salinas, Carmel, San Juan Bautista.

This afternoon the city of Watsonville celebrated the new gadget. City officials say they're hopeful it will get a lot of use. "Watsonville is right on Highway 1. It's a great location for somebody that is traveling on Highway 1 to stop and be able to recharge their vehicle," said Mike Stone.

AMBAG Planner Anais Schenk says it's a good idea to bring in more options for people who drive electric cars. "The motivation is to provide the infrastructure necessary so that EV adoption becomes more wide spread so that the infrastructure is there for the purchase of an electric vehicle,"said Schenk.

Installation for the electric chargers range between $6,000 to $10,000 per station.
