Chipotle Opens, More Businesses Coming To Salinas

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS - In your Central Coast economy, the city of Salinas expects several businesses to set up shop in the near future.

On Wednesday, the Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce said the empty bank building in Old Town is one step closer to becoming a restaurant and nightclub.

Well-known developer Gerry Kehoe has been working on the project with the city for over four years, but there's no open date yet.

Across town, a new Chipotle restaurant in North Salinas had its grand opening.

"These retail establishments and these restaurants they're great for the city because they bring in a lot of sales taxes," said Paul Farmer, president and chief executive officer for the Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce.

A Peets Coffee & Tea and Dick's Sporting Goods are also in the works for the city.

Meantime, Taylor Farms is getting closer to breaking ground on its new headquarters in Old Town.

There's no set date.

It's still going through the permitting process but it's supposed to happen by September.

The building will be across the street from Maya Cinemas.

It was more than a month ago when Capital One announced its credit card processing center is leaving Salinas.

It means 850 workers are losing their jobs.

The city is hoping to bring another financial business in to replace Capital One.
