MORGAN HILL, Calif - Morgan Hill Police arrested a Santa Cruz man Wednesday night after officers say he ran after a teenager with knife and then tried to stab officers.
According to Morgan Hill Police, on June 6th around 8:52 pm, MHPD Dispatch received a call of man who was knocking on the front door to an apartment at the Village Avante Apartment Complex at the corner of Cosmo Avenue and Del Monte Avenue. The people inside didn't know the man and refused to leave.
One of the residents of the apartment, a 15-year-old boy, went outside to speak with the suspect,Vidal Hernandez ,26. Hernandez, a transient, reached into his pocket and pulled out a knife. Hernandez then chased the teen, who luckily was able to outrun the suspect and run to safety.
When a Morgan Hill officer arrive Hernandez refused to obey the commands of the officer. Hernandez made his way to the front door of the apartment once again and began pounding on the door. Hernandez was told multiple times to get away from the apartment but he refused to cooperate.
Hernandez turned and began to walk away from the officer. The officer continually gave Hernandez verbal commands to stop, Hernandez ignored the officer, then quickly turned around and faced the officer. The jacket that Hernandez had draped over his arm fell to the ground and the knife he was holding was exposed. The officer gave Hernandez commands to drop the knife and was again ignored.
Hernandez lunged towards the officer and he was forced deploy his Taser, incapacitating Hernandez who was then handcuffed and taken into custody.
Hernandez is transient and lives in the Santa Cruz area. It was later learned that he was in Morgan Hill looking for his sister, who lived at an apartment complex nearby where this incident took place.
Hernandez was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, delaying an officer, and using a weapon to delay an officer.
