Salinas Mother Arrested After 3-Year-Old Disappears

Posted: Updated:

Salinas, Calif-- Salinas Police arrested Rosalva Fernandez for child endangerment after her 3-year-old son disappeared.

Officers arrested her Friday morning after investigating the boy's disappearance the night before.  Investigators say surveillance footage from a nearby business show Fernandez waited at least an hour and a half before reporting her missing child.

On Thursday night Fernandez told Central Coast News the boy's disappearance was the biggest scare of her life and he vanished when she turned away for a second.

Officers found the young boy 90 minutes after he was reported missing and two blocks away from his home on the 2100 block of North Main Street. He was walking on the sidewalk with a 23-year-old man. The boy appeared ok but officers took him to a local hospital to get checked.

The man claimed to be a family acquaintance; on Friday police confirmed the family knew him but they weren't friends.

As of now, there's no word on if that man will face charges.
