Friends of Sierra LaMar Mourn After Sheriff Says She Was Victim of Murder

Posted: Updated:

MORGAN HILL, Calif. -- Sierra Lamar's friends at Ann Sobrato High are holding out hope.

Even though investigators now say Antolin Garcia-Torres killed the 15-year-old Morgan Hill girl, her friends don't want to believe it.

"We just all had our hopes up, hoping and praying that she's still going to be alive- they still have no proof that she isn't alive so hopes are still up," says Victoria Reyes, Sierra's friend.

Victoria Reyes knows what happened to Sierra could happen to anyone so she's now taking extra precautions.

"I always make sure to lock my car whenever i get in and my mom made me get some mace just so that i can have some type of protection- because no mom wants that happening to their daughters, " says Reyes.

The Morgan Hill Unified School District Superintendent sent Central Coast News a statement on Tuesday saying the district is focused on giving students any sort of help they need to deal with the tragedy.

Sobrato High principal Debbie Padilla sent the school's staff this memo:

"As we struggle with the pain of this tragedy, it is important that we remember how Sierra's life has made such a positive impact on our community... we will continue to use our pain to make a positive difference in our community."

Something Sierra's friends say she would've liked.

"I never seen her sad once, she has the prettiest smile and her eyes- she was kind of quiet but she was just really nice," says Reyes.
