Del Rey Oaks, Calif.- Protestors gathered outside the Safeway on Canyon Del Rey Boulevard to protest an employee suspended for breaking up a fight.

Del Rey Oaks police say Ryan Youn stopped a man from assaulting his pregnant girlfriend last month.

But Safeway suspended him without pay for violating company policy.

"I've been suspended for just about a month now without pay for doing something I feel was right, that police said was right," Young told Central Coast News in an exclusive interview.

In a statement Friday Safeway, the store said Young was not suspended for coming to the aid of a customer, but for "actions, subsequent to the initial confrontation".
