Police Investigating Retaliatory Attack For Santa Cruz Murder

SANTA CRUZ, Calif - Santa Cruz Police are investigated whether an assault against a homeless man was in retaliation for the death of a Santa Cruz buisness owner earlier this week. 

According to Santa Cruz Police, on Thursay night around 9:30, officers responded to  a report of a fight on the 200 block of Church Street.  A witness saw two men hitting and kicking a the victim who looked like a homeless man. The witness heard the  suspects yell at the victim "This is for" but could not hear the rest.  Investigators believe the incident  may have been a retaliatory attack for the recent murder of Shannon Collins, a local business that the victim was targeted for being homeless.

The victim had no connection to the homicide.

Officers later found the victim walking on Pacific Avenue with injuries to his face, back and legs.  The victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.
