Deputies Recover Car in Sierra LaMar Investigation

Posted: Updated:

MORGAN HILL, Calif. -- The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department has released new photos of the actual Volkswagen Jetta suspected to be involved in the Sierra LaMar investigation and say the car is in their custody.

Sgt. Jose Cardoza says the Sheriff's Department is very appreciative of the public's input, after releasing details on the car Monday morning, but wants to inform everyone that the car is now in their custody.

Officials are still wanting the public to call them if they remember this car in the Morgan Hill or surrounding areas on March 16th, the day Sierra LaMar went missing, or if they have any information regarding the occupants of this vehicle.

Authorities said they couldn't say when or where they found the car because it would jeopardize the investigation.  They also wouldn't say what they found in the car, all they would say is survellience video, interviews and tips helped them locate it.  Detectives don't have anyone in custody and won't say if the car's owner is a possible person of interest.  Even with investigators holding back a lot of information, tips are still pouring in.  Police said they've even received reports of the car sighted in other states.  The car will now be processed and investigated for evidence.

Central Coast News spoke with Sierra's father Steve LaMar about the new development.  He said it's good news and the type of break his family's been waiting for.  He also said it's renewing their hope.
