MONTEREY, Calif.- "Things that tourists would buy."
T-shirts, sweatshirts, and other chackies ended up at the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce not as momentos, but as stolen property.
"It was a big surprise, this is something we don't get everyday," said chamber President Jody Hansen.
Chamber president jody hansen said she got the box in the mail this morning with two apology letters.
Hansen said the letters explain the things were stolen from stores on Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf last week on a field trip.
The chamber estimates anywhere from $100-200 in stolen property was returned.
The letters, which Hansen thinks are from two young women, go on to say the thieves are part of a rehab program and said they wanted to do the right thing and turn the stuff in.
"Gives you trust in people, they do have remorse sometimes, and they do the right thing even if it's after the fact, it's important."
The Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce said it doesn't have any plans to contact police or press charges. As for the property, the chamber will try to get what it can back to the correct stores on Fisherman's Wharf, then donate the rest.
