SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. - A choir teacher at Salinas High School has been arrested for using a "spy pen" to record teenagers undressing in a hotel bathroom, said deputies.
According to deputies, Aldrin Jayson Nicolas was also a teacher for the Vivace Youth Group in San Jose. When the Youth Group went on a weekend trip to the Pajaro Dunes in South Santa Cruz County he used a "Spy Pen" to record the girls in the group, reported deputies.
Deputies say while on the trip some girls found the pen in the bathroom. After further investigation by detectives, they say that Nicolas placed the camera in the bathroom to produce videos of the girls undressing.
Nicolas was suspended by Vivace Youth Group and Salinas High School, said deputies.
At this time investigators do not believe there are any victims at Salinas High School. At Tuesday's Salinas Union High School District board meeting, Central Coast News asked the board what they plan to do different to protect the students.
School superintendent Jim Earhart said the school will look at policies, figure out why this keeps happening and hold people accountable.
"Right now my reaction is one of concern and of anger, trying to get to the bottom of what's going on," says Superintendent Jim Earhart. "We have had a rough year with this kind of stuff and that's the first thing on the agenda tomorrow morning."
The school principal said Nicolas was hired in the beginning of the school year and left before spring break.
