SALINAS, Calif. -- Salinas Police are asking witnesses to come forward after someone shot a 16-year-old boy walking home from school Tuesday afternoon. 16-year-old, Oscar Alejandro Camberos died today from his injuries. He was a student at North Salinas High School.
According to Salinas Police, two good samaritans found Camberos lying in the middle of the road near Calaveras Drive and Ukiah Way around 3:30 Tuesday with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Officer said the victim appeared to have been walking home from North Salinas High School, as he lives in the area of the shooting and was approached by at least one suspect. It is unknown if there was a confrontation between the victim and the suspect(s), but the victim was shot several times. The suspect(s) fled the area in an unknown direction and there was very limited information on a suspect description.
Police believe there may have been several other people outside, in the area, at the time of the shooting.
