49er Football Players Help Search For Sierra LaMar

Posted: Updated:

MORGAN HILL, Calif. -- Saturday is one of the biggest turnouts yet for the search of 15-year-old Sierra LaMar.  She went missing just over 3 weeks ago on her way to school.  This weekend, 49ers Quarterback Alex Smith came with a few of his teammates Joe Staley, Delanie Walker and Scott Tolzien to join in on the search for Sierra.

The 49er teammates started near highway 101 in Gilroy, and shied away from the cameras, wanting to keep the focus on looking for Sierra.

"They've all been very good about not making this about them. They've been very clear with us this is about Sierra, we want to help," said Marc Klaas, with KlaasKids Foundation.

With the 49ers stepping in, they're hoping more people will become aware that Sierra is still missing, and it seems to be working.  The line wrapped around Burnett Elementary School in Morgan Hill Saturday drew in almost 600 people.

"That's what participation of the 49ers does. This case would otherwise be going dormant and it brings, it gives it a new profile," said Klaas.

"You know if I wasn't a fan before, I definitely am now. I mean it's just so great to be a missing person advocate. We need more of them out there," said Michael Le, Search Guide Volunteer

Another volunteer search is being planned for this Wednesday starting at 8 am and until one.  Volunteers can sign up at Burnett Elementary in Morgan Hill with Valid IDs.
