Deadly Shooting Marks Sixth Homicide In Salinas

Salinas, Calif-- Salinas Police are investigating a fatal shooting near the 100 block of North Hebbron Avenue Friday night.

Police say when they arrived on scene just after 9:00 pm, they found 16 year old, Ricardo Rojas on the sidewalk. He was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head and died a short tiem later at the Natividad Medical Center.

Just a short time later, police say they found another shooting victim at an apartment complex nearby. The 14 year old was flown to a bay area hospital for treatment.

Police say both of the victims had been walking together when they were confronted by two suspects. One suspect was described as wearing a black hoodie and black pants. He was short and had a stocky build. The second suspect wore a grey hoodie and black pants.  There is no further suspect description.  They were last seeing fleeing eastbound on Jefferson St. 

This is the sixth homicide of the year and is considered gang-related.
