Highway 1 Still Closed From Large Boulder

BIG SUR, Calif.- Highway 1 is still closed Wednesday night in both directions due to a large boulder at Pitkins/Rain Rocks, 1.8 miles south of Lucia and 25 miles south of Big Sur. The large boulder, the size of a pick-up truck, came down just south of the rock shed project, Caltrans officials announced.

CCaltrans geologists, maintenance and construction crews are clearing the debris, scaling, making repairs to the roadway and netting and inspecting the hillside, which remains unstable.

The slide is still active, so the roadway will remained closed. An update will be provided Thursday once an assessment is made. Currently, there is no estimated time of opening. All businesses in the area will remain open.

    SALINAS, Calif- Police are responding to a report of a stabbing that happened on East Alisal Friday afternoon. At this time police have E. Bernal at North Main closed off looking for a possible suspect.
    Police responded to a report of a stabbing that happened on East Alisal Friday afternoon. A witness who saw the stabbing tried to help the victim get to the hospital. He carried the suspect to the car and sped towards the hospital, said police.
