Monterey, Calif-- Chelsie Hill told Central Coast News she was surprised she was asked to speak to soldiers at the Defense Language Institute about the dangers of drinking and driving.
She was the main speaker at the 229th Military Intelligence Battalion's Substance Abuse Program Monday morning.
Hill was paralyzed in a car crash in 2010 when another teen drove drunk and crashed. She started the Walk & Roll Foundation to help other people with spinal cord injuries.
Soldiers were moved by her story. Specialist Christopher Kloefkorn said "That's something that military personnel deal with on a daily basis, the loss of limbs, and what she's doing is the best thing you can do -- get out, do what you can and teach people not to make poor decisions."
Chelsie and her father, Jon, received certifactes of appreciation after their presentation.
