A Man's Life Mission To Help Missing Person Cases

Posted: Updated:

MORGAN HILL, Calif. – The family of a woman whose disappearance made national headlines joined the search for Sierra Lamar.  Last May, CSU East Bay Nursing student Michelle Le disappeared after her shift at a bay area hospital.  After a several month search, investigators found her body in Alameda County in September.  Central Coast News caught up with Le's brother Michael, who made it a life mission to help others who are going through similar experiences.

"To see how much the community pulled together to help me find my sister, it really inspired me to reach out and to really dedicate my life to other families who have to go through this ordeal, " Michael Le.

This week, Le is sharing his experience with volunteers, showing them what kinds of things they should look for.  He used a slide show to walk each volunteer through the necessary procedures before they start searching.  He said in searches like this, you have to be very specific.

"You have to be extremely detailed oriented.  It could be something as simple as a compression, which could be someone's tracks.  It could be something as bruising in the leaves to show that someone's been there," said Le.

Le reminds volunteers their safety is just as important.  He admits sometimes you don't find anything, but you've got to remain focused on the goal.

"It just, it just drains you because you're thinking, oh well what if she went this way, what if she went that way, what if she was there, what if she was where I was but I missed it?  There are so many possibilities out there that just weigh on you," said Le.
