SANTA CRUZ, Calif. An iconic part of the Santa Cruz Boardwalk is now up for sale. We're talking about the popular Hurricane Roller Coaster. It's being sold for $500,000.
This is news most people around town aren't happy about. "Well I really think they should just leave it you know in its original state. I mean its so much better. If you replace something then its not worth anything," said Araceli Aguilar.
"I think it will be sad but I guess maybe the upgrade is to help the city bring in a little bit more people, a little bit more money", said Layce Kieu.
Right now the boardwalk is in negotiations for a new ride. They are talking to several different companies but have not released what new ride will be replacing the Hurricane. They say a new ride will hopefully bring more sales and become a new favorite.
Vice President of Boardwalk Operations Tom Canfield says the Hurricane has a lot of fans, and the new ride will be just as popular. "The roller coaster we had before, the Jetstar had a lot of fans and I know we're going to be disappointing quite a few people but we're confident that the offering that we bring in to replace it will be a new favorite," said Canfield.
