SANTA CRUZ, Calif - Santa Cruz Police arrested seven teenagers on Friday for the accused role in a gang stabbing Wednesday afternoon.
According to Santa Cruz Police, on Wednesday the suspects approached the 18-year-old victim and his girlfriend while they were walking on the 200 block of Second Street. The teens asked the victim his gang affliation and mistakenly accused the victim of being a "Norteno" affiliate. All of the suspects are gang members of a Sureno gang subset going by the name of "Killa Chicos", prevalent in the lower Ocean Street and Beach Flats neighborhoods.
The victim remains in a Bay Area trauma center in serious condition. His girlfriend was unharmed.
Two other suspects were arrested at the scene on Wednesday. Detectives identified the other seven suspects using a combination of video evidence, search warrants and information from witness. Each of the suspects was booked into Santa Cruz County Juvenile Hall for attempted homicide and participation in a criminal street gang.
