Suspected Child Molester's Girlfriend Pleads No Contest in Court

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif. -- A woman accused of hiding and aiding her boyfriend, who was accused of child molestation, has taken a plea deal to the charges she faces.

Nelida Gaytan pleaded no contest in court, Friday, to numerous charges including accessory after the fact and delaying an officer.

Both of those charges were reduced to misdemeanors.

Gaytan faces a maximum sentence of one year in jail, although it is expected that her Defense Attorey will rule time served.

Rene Cruz will have his preliminary hearing later today to determine whether or not there is enough evidence to try him on child molestation charges.

Rene Cruz and Nelida Gaytan disappeared after police questioned Cruz about molestation charges brought against him.

Police say Gaytan lied to them, to protect him.

Both turned themselves in last month.
