KING CITY, Calif- CHP says that a third victim from the Highway 101 crash North of Jolon Road died at a Fresno hospital Thursday morning. The accident happened when a woman who was under the influence reached for her phone and swerved into on coming traffic, said CHP Officer Zoltan Treiner.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released yet, hit a Volkswagen Beetle with four people inside. Two of the four people in the Volkswagen died at the scene and the third person died at the hospital. Officer Treiner said the victims were coming home from a funeral in King City.
The accident with the Volkswagen caused six other cars to crash. CHP said 15 people total were injured and they had to extricate four people from their cars. Three people were taken by helicopter and five victims were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
The suspect was taken to a hospital in San Jose with major injuries, said Officer Treiner. She is being charged with Felony DUI and felony vehicular manslaughter.
