SEASIDE - The family of a Central Coast high school football star who was shot to death by Los Angeles Police last year released surveillance video that was captured moments before he died.
Reggie Doucet Jr.'s family showed Central Coast News surveillance video leading up to their son's death.
Police call the shooting justified and called Doucet an imminent threat to officers, but his family doesn't buy it.
Doucet's family said they want people to see the surveillance video because they want the public's help to force an independent investigation into his death.
In the video, Doucet is only wearing a pair of boxer shorts and runs away from police when they try to question him.
Police originally responded because neighbors called 911 about a naked man acting strangely outside an apartment complex.
The big question is what happens once he is out of the picture.
Police said they thought he had a weapon and lunged at them, so officers opened fire.
The former North County football star's parents said he was peaceful and would not have attacked officers.
"We are demanding justice for his murder and we want the officers who murdered him and who are involved in it to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law," said Odessa Doucet, his mother.
"Sometimes I think that this is surreal, this is a dream," said Reginald Doucet Sr. "I'm hoping to wake up from it but unfortunately that will never occur."
His family filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the police department.
A hearing is set for Feb. 27 in L.A.
The LAPD said its officers investigated the shooting and called it justified.
