LIVE OAK, Calif. -- On Wednesday, Central Coast News learned how a Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Deputy helped save a woman's life at the Beach RV Park in Live Oak. Folks are calling him a hero.
"It makes me uncomfortable with that characterization because it takes away from what other people did and what she did to end the situation," said Patrick Dimick.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Department said Deputy Patrick Dimick ran into the trailer, tased and arrested Christopher Linder. They said Linder was trying to strangle his wife, after stabbing her and his daughter.
"It was just a matter of timing, good training and good experience and it all just came together for a good outcome," said Deputy Dimick.
Dimick joined the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's department 14 years ago. It's rare he comes across a situation like the one on Valentines Day, but after 14 years on the force, he knows what to do and said while people are talking about what he did, there are a lot of people who helped make the arrest possible.
"There are dispatchers and other team members, neighbors and people giving great information to help us out," said Dimick.
As a matter of fact, the sheriff's office said it received a number of calls from people saying they could hear the Linder Family's altercation in the trailer. Dimick was the first deputy there and said when he got inside the trailer; Linder was on top of his wife choking her. He said Linder refused to stop.
"Fortunately, it was a circumstance where a taser was warranted and deadly force wasn't," said Dimick.
While he got the wife to safety, Linder's 13-year-old daughter was no where to be found.
"All I remember is she was injured. I hadn't spoken or seen her yet, but some good neighbors took her in and put her in a safe location," said Dimick.
The wife and child are expected to be okay. They're recovering from serious wounds.
