Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif- A former assistant principal at Alisal High school, who is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student, is being charged with an additional 22 charges.

Raul Ramirez pleaded not guilty to the new charges, bringing the total charges against him to 34. His bail is still set at $1 million dollars.

Ramirez, who was nominated by his students to be a Hometown Hero in 2010, is accused of having sex with a student and trying to stop her and her friends from reporting the crime to police.

The prosecution claims Ramirez also destroyed his I-phone, which they say he used to send hundreds of text messages to the alleged victim, and asked the girl to destroy hers.

According to court paperwork, Ramirez was supposed to be in court so a judge could decide if they are ready to go for the preliminary examination on Thursday. After Tuesday's hearing his preliminary examination was moved to March 15th.
