2 Salinas Gang Members Convicted For 2009 Crime

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS - The Monterey County District Attorney Dean D. Flippo announced the conviction of two Salinas gang members.

The Monterey County Joint Gang Task Force arrested Carlos Fletes and Jose Villareal at an auto body shop in 2009.

It was part of an undercover investigation into the business.

Officers saw the men hanging out in front with what appeared to be a gun.

When they tried to approach the business, they said the two men tried to get away.

One officer shot Fletes, hitting him in the hand.

Once they arrested both men, they found several guns around the business.

During the trial, Fletes said he was not a gang member and what appeared to be a gun was really a paint sprayer.

Both men will be sentenced on March 7.
