WATSONVILLE, Calif - Police evacuated a neighborhood near the 100 block of Elm and Grant Street Tuesday night, as fire crews contained a fire that spread to two homes.
Watsonville Fire responded just before 6:30 p.m. to the homes at 140 and 142 Grant Avenue. As of Tuesday night, firefighters believe the fire started in an outbuilding near the structures but they don't know why.

The fire affected two units with damages estimated at $100,000.
American Red Cross volunteers are helping 9 adults and 8 children that were displaced by the fire. A total of eight fire engines, two fire trucks, and two water tenders from surrounding agencies assisted in the quick knockdown of the fire.
