Woman Upset About Paying For W-2 Form

Posted: Updated:

CHULAR, Calif. --- It's tax season which means many of you are trying to get your W-2 forms to prepare your taxes and hopefully get money back.  But one Central Coast woman said her husband never received hers from her employer, and what's worse is he had to pay to get it.

"Never in my entire time that I've worked, I ever had to pay for a copy for a W-2 form," said Patricia Velasquez.

Patricia Velasquez's husband is a former worker at Four Seasons Produce Packing Company.  She's upset with the Chular based company for sending the W-2 form to their old address, then charging 5 bucks to get a new copy.

"I believe that if it gets sent to the wrong address then you should go to the company and they should have a copy of it because there's no reason for a citizen to pay for a copy," said Velasquez.

Turns out, some other workers she talked to are having the same problem.

"5 dollars to 10 dollars a person? That's money she's getting free, that's not fair. I just want justice made for them," said Velasquez.

We called several state departments and no one could tell us if employers can charge their workers for a W-2 form.  But according to Turbo Tax, it says an employer can charge you a fee for the new form.

We also talked to a manger at Four Seasons Produce Packing Company.  She said they charge an administration fee for any copies.  In Velasquez's case, the company said it sent the form to the address her husband had on file.  If it's an old address, the manager said workers should update it.  The company still hasn't received the form in the mail, but will keep an eye out and give a refund if the worker picks up.
