MONTEREY- Rows of fishing boats were docked Tuesday at Monterey Fisherman's Wharf. High winds and rough conditions are the culprit.
"Around the point here, it's like night and day," described fish retailer Paul Compheno. "Right here [on shore] it doesn't seem like it's rough out there. But once you get past the point, you can almost see just black water."
It's a question fishermen weigh carefully on a regular basis: the worth of the daily catch verse the dangers of the open waters.
"It's just dangerous. I mean, when you're out there in those swells like that guys tip overboard. It's not really worth it," said Compheno.
Fortunately for the fishermen, and women's, bottom line, this winter is off to an unseasonable calm start. All high wind advisories have been canceled by the National Weather Service.
