MONTEREY, Calif- The southbound Highway 1 onramp from Highway 68 West will be closed Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for tree removal, said Caltrans officials.
Trees in the area are rapidly dying from Pitch Canker, a fungus believed to be spread by native beetles, said Caltrans. This project is intended to remove only the dead trees that have the potential to cause damage.
Caltrans says that they will have a detour in place.
