Capitola Skate Park Preview

CAPITOLA, Calif. - Residents of Capitola will get a preview of the 9,000 square foot skate park being considered for Monterey Park today.  Dreamland Skateparks will present it's plan for a park to fit between the softball field and New Brighton Middle School.

The council approved that location back in November.  The unveiling of the planned skate park will be at the Capitola City Council Chambers at 420 Capitola Avenue in Capitola starting at 7:00 tonight.

The debate over creating a skate park came after an 83 year old woman died when a 17 year old skate-boarder ran into her last July.  Witnesses say the skate-boarder blew threw a stop sign and hit Maryann Slettehaugh while she was crossing the street at Cliff Drive and Wharf Road.  She fell and died in the hospital later that day.
