SALINAS, Calif - A man is in the Monterey County jail on charges of murder after he repeatedly ran over another man with his car and killed him, said police.
It happened on Market Way and Soledad Tuesday afternoon. Witnesses say 54-year-old Adnan Nijmeddin hit the victim with his car and when the victim tried to run away, he drove over him again.
Police say that Nijmeddin drove away from the scene but his car was leaking fluids so police were able to track him down to the 200 block of Commission Street. Nijmeddin was inside a business on Commission Street and initially refused to come out, said police. After a few minutes he gave up and came outside where he was arrested.
The victim, a 47 year old male, was transported to a bay area hospital by helicopter, he later died in surgery. The victim's name is being withheld until his family members can be notified.
