MARINA, Calif. - Neighbors on Carmel Avenue in Marina call their neighborhood peaceful, but it's been far from that these last two weeks. Police said someone's been shooting at car windows with a BB gun.
"We're a working family here you know, and people come out and see this kind of thing right here, this is ridiculous," said Marina neighbor Bill Valdez.
While Central Coast News was in the neighborhood Monday, we found Bill Valdez repairing his friend's car window. He's one of the 23 victims targeted since January 4th. That's the day two police officers were shot at for about 45 seconds. Luckily no one was injured, but the pellets broke two car windows.
"It's costing me or us, time, money and all this. It just really hurts on the pockets especially with the down economy," said Valdez.
As for the Gabriel Rosas, he's been busy all day repairing broken windows. He said his glass costs between a hundred to 200 dollars a piece. While police are still investigating the shootings and vandalism, they have an idea who's behind it.
"It's an unknown person who probably bought a pellet gun or received a pellet gun as a present after Christmas and who thinks it's fun going around vandalizing other people's property," said Marina Police Commander Bob Nolan.
One things for sure though, neighbors want whoever is breaking their car windows to stop now.
"You never know if it's going to happen again, and we'll have to do the same thing over again right here," said Valdez.
If you have any information about the vandalism, call Marina Police at 831-884-1266.
