NIPOMO - Green Goodness! A healthy harvest headed to a school near you.
When you see a kiwi fruit you might wonder where it came from... New Zealand? No... Nipomo!
The harvest only happens two days a year when the fruit is at it's peak. Family owned since 1988, they packed 80 thousand pounds of kiwis at Mallard Lake Ranch this year.
From tree to lunch tray, the s'Cool Food Initiative helps bring fresh local produce to students by connecting growers to schools.
Kiwis are now a favorite on school salad bars.
Kiwi's are packed with nutrition. They contain twice the Vitamin C of an orange, as much potassium as a banana, and they are full of fiber especially when you eat the fuzzy skin. Yes.. eat the skin!
Mallard Lake Ranch sells to local farmers markets, Spencer's markets and schools through March.
