Student Hit and Killed in Alvarez High School Parking Lot

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif. - 24 hours after a fatal car accident, Salinas Police spent the day at Everett Alvarez High School continuing their investigation.   On Wednesday, the school district sent Central Coast News a statement saying it's working with police on the investigation.  However, it didn't answer any of the questions Angel Dimas Jr's family is asking about the deadly accident.

Angel was a special education student at Everett Alvarez.  A friend of his family who didn't want to be identified told Central Coast News his mother was worried about how her son got to his class after getting off the bus every day.  She knew her 14-year-old, who has the mind of a 3-year-old, would need some sort of help.  The friend told me on several occasions, the mother went to the school and requested an escort for her son.  But they said that never happened.

So we took their concerns to the high school.  School Officials said the principal didn't have time to talk about it Wednesday.

Angel was actually hurt as a 3-year-old when an out of control car hit him at Oil Can Henry's in Salinas.  It left him with brain damage.  Then on Tuesday, a car hit him in an Alvarez High School parking lot.  Angel later died at a bay area hospital.  Police said a 17-year-old student was driving the car.  Police are still investigating the crash.
