Board Sets Rules for 'Oil Fracking' in Santa Barbara County

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY - The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors approved a list of rules for oil producers who are wishing to use the controversial 'oil fracking' method in their extraction procedures.

The board ruled that oil producers will have to go to the SB County Planning Commission in order to get a 'Oil Drilling Production Plan' if they wish to 'frack'.

'Oil fracking' is a process that pumps pressurized liquid into a well bore, so that the pressure cracks the surrounding rock and releases oil.

So far, there are no reported companies planning to use the controversial method in Santa Barbara County.
